Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sends message to Manchester United players ahead of Tottenham friendly

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has challenged some of the fringe players in his squad to use the pre-season friendly with Tottenham to force their way into his plans.

United finish their pre-season tour with a fixture against Spurs in Shanghai as they aim to make it four wins out of four this summer.

Solskjaer has made changes for the all-Premier League fixture and with places still up for grabs in his side to face Chelsea on the opening weekend of the season, he wants to see players making a case for a place in the team today.

Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo, Ashley Young, Andreas Pereira and Scott McTominay will be among those hoping to make a case for inclusion in the side and Solskjaer wants to see another impressive performance in pre-season.

"We want to see the same attitude and intensity," he said to MUTV. "We've given players a chance to prove themselves and build on what we've been working on all tour.

"It's all about giving players a chance, giving them minutes, we want to get to August 11 with as many players ready to start [as possible].

"It’s going to be a test for everyone but it’s a test of character, we want to win the game, we’re a competitive team, the players know we've got a strong squad challenging for places and there might be a player or two who want to be part of that starting 11."

Mason Greenwood also starts again for United . The 17-year-old has been one of the stars of pre-season, scoring against Inter Milan, and Solskjaer is looking forward to seeing him against Premier League opponents.

"Mason has taken a chance every time he’s been on the pitch so it will be nice to see him against tough opposition," he said.
