Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sends message to Manchester United players

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that he used to train with Manchester United's pre-season opponents Kristiansund and believes their players will want to 'prove to me what they can do.'

United announced that the club would play two friendlies in Solskjaer's native Norway this summer on Thursday, with the men's team taking on Kristiansund on 30 July, at the Ullevaal Stadium.

Casey Stoney and her women's side will face Valerenga a day later at the Intility Arena, with both games being played in the capital of Oslo.

Solskjaer was born in Kristiansund and revealed the history he has with the club.

“Their players, of course, will want to impress,” he told MUTV.

"After Cardiff, when I was out of a job for a year, I went over with Christian [Michelsen, Kristiansund manager] and had one or two sessions a week with the team.

"So I know quite a few of the players and they will want to prove to me what they can do, and prove to themselves what they can do against some of the best players in the world.

”It’s a chance for them maybe to be seen around the world because teams are always watching Manchester United. They might just see one or two of these players having a chance in their team."

Solskjaer added on United's pre-season:  “Of course, we’re going to sit down and go through all the plans with the physical coaches and with the coaches and we’ll be ready when 1 July comes. There are not going to be any excuses....

“You get more energy because you’re determined to come back a better team and a better coach, to help the players improve and be even better. Yeah it’s nice, winning, don’t get me wrong. But when you get a season like we’ve had, I think everyone wants to show what we can do, because they’re proud players and we're proud coaches."
