Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sends Manchester United top four message ahead of Southampton match

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told Manchester United to focus on the task at hand as the Red Devils face Southampton in a huge Premier League clash tonight.

United will go third in the table with a victory at Old Trafford tonight, and the result has taken on added significance given Man City's successful appeal against their Champions League ban earlier today.

Had City's two-year ban from Uefa competitions been upheld by CAS, a fifth-placed finish would have been enough for Champions League football.

However, City's successful appeal - and the fact that they have already finished second - mean that only two from Chelsea, Leicester City, United and the chasing pack will qualify for Europe's elite club competition.

Speaking ahead of tonight's game, Solskjaer said: "We’ve known all the way that if we do our job, we’ll finish in the top four. We just keep on trying to do our job.

"[Southampton] played really well away to Everton, they should have won that by quite a margin, and then they beat [Man] City before that one again. It doesn’t really matter if you are home or away now without the crowd.

"That just says everything about their quality at the moment. They’re one of the fittest teams in the league, they work really hard and you can see the clear structure of the pressing, with the German style.

"When Ralph [Hasenhuttl] came in, this was the way he envisioned his team playing."
