Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sends Manchester United message to Daniel James amid Leeds United interest

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has commented on Daniel James' form this season amid interest from Leeds United.

James has endured a rough ride since joining the Red Devils from Swansea City ahead of the 2019/20 season.

The Welsh winger started strongly with the Manchester club as he bagged his first competitive goal in a 4-0 thrashing of Chelsea to open the previous campaign.

But James has since struggled to nail down a place in Solskjaer's side, something which led to speculation about his future this summer.

Leeds were interested in signing the 22-year-old but failed to pull off a deal, with James left at United to continue his indifferent form.

James was surprisingly recalled for the 4-1 victory at Newcastle earlier this month and also featured in the 0-0 draw against Chelsea this past weekend.

But James was replaced by debutant Edinson Cavani against Chelsea after a poor display but Solskjaer is determined to be patient with the player.

"Dan's confidence is high," Solskjaer said. "Because he's starting games with the quality of players he's in the team with. Today was one of those days where he played against some good players as well, he had some moments, and we keep on working.

"Dan's had a really good impact at the club and we're looking forward to developing him more."

Fans of the Reds have also not been overly impressed with the performances of late from James, with some criticising his display against Chelsea in the 0-0 draw at the weekend.
