Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sends Manchester United fans message ahead of Man City derby fixture

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes the Manchester United fans will have a huge role to play in today's derby at Old Trafford.

United host Manchester rivals City on Sunday afternoon, looking to complete a Premier League double over Pep Guardiola's side after their thrilling win at the Etihad Stadium in December.

City narrowly overcame United over two legs in the Carabao Cup semi-final, with Solskjaer now looking for a hostile atmosphere at the Theatre of Dreams to ensure a third derby victory of the campaign.

“They’ll be massive and keep backing the players. I know they will," he said in a pre-match interview with MUTV. "They always have done. We know that we will have them behind us and we'll go for it.”

United go into the game on a nine-match unbeaten run, having cruised beyond Derby County 3-0 in the FA Cup in midweek.

But Solskjaer is wary that form could mean little in a high octane derby encounter.

“I've got to say we're looking forward to it. It's a derby," he added.

"We've found form, we know form might be thrown out the window in a derby but still the boys are confident going into this game.

"You can't pick confidence out of the fridge so it just comes from performances and results and doing the right things over and over again.

"We’ll have to do that against these because they're a fantastic team at their best. So we need to make sure that we're ready.”

The game at Old Trafford gets under way at 4.30pm this afternoon.
