Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has sent his condolences to managerial rival Pep Guardiola following his mother's death from coronavirus.
Guardiola's mum Dolors Sala Carrio passed away in Barcelona after contracting the virus at the age of 82, and tributes have been paid from a number of leading figures in the game.
Solskjaer was asked about the sad news in an interview with Gary Neville on Sky Sports, and took the opportunity to pay tribute.
"We all think about him, of course, and his family," Solskjaer said. "It just goes to show that we have to (make the most of it) when we have the chance to spend time with our loved ones.
"And for me Pep is such a fantastic human-being and a manager, and one that I've admired for many, many years.
"I just hope that he can take care, and look after himself and look after his own family in this difficult, difficult period, because you don't wish that on anyone."
In a wide-ranging interview, Solskjaer tried to take the positives out of the current coronavirus situation, saying he and his players were taking advantage of being able to spend more time than normal with their loved ones.
"Of course there will be text messages and WhatsApp messages more often," he continued. "But the biggest difference for most of us is that when you’re a footballer you don’t really get to spend much time with your family.
"That’s been a big plus, if you’re allowed to say that anything has been a big plus in this situation. But yes, we are planning, we are discussing what we have to do, what we can do, and I have to say the club has been very good so far."
United announced last week that they would not be making use of the government's furlough scheme and would continue to pay all employees as normal.
