Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sends Dean Henderson a message after Manchester United win

Dean Henderson is still seven appearances short of equalling the most number of games Sergio Romero managed in a season for Manchester United and 18 starts is unlikely to placate him.

After 10 starts and one substitute outing, Henderson has five clean sheets and a 100 per cent winning record in the Premier League. David de Gea was given a night off against West Ham as Henderson resumed cup duties but the pressing issue is whether he stays in goal at West Brom in the league on Sunday.

Henderson, 23, has had to bide his time after two seasons as Sheffield United's first choice in the Championship and the Premier League. Henderson attained his first England cap in November, which has only fueled his desire to supplant De Gea as the United number one.

De Gea's lack of authority at set-pieces has been noticeable this season and the empty stadiums have given Henderson the acoustics to audition. He took audible command at a corner and, in a direct comparison with Everton's first goal on Saturday, parried a cross to Marcus Rashford to spark a breakaway.

"I always hope our 'keeper has a quiet night when we play and most of the time it's happened that way," Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said. "Today, he was clearing everything a bit, apart from the last header, he might have taken his eye off the ball a little bit.

"As a 'keeper, David's been used to this for years, to keep concentrated, eye on the ball, suddenly one moment comes up and you have to make a save. I hope that's the way it's going to be for our keepers for many, many years."

Ryan Fredericks became the first concussion substitution after Issa Diop suffered a clash of heads with Anthony Martial towards the end of the first-half. Diop stayed on until half-time, when he was replaced by Fredericks, and West Ham clarified it was a concussion sub on their Twitter account.

"That's medical protocols, concussion protocols, of course," Solskjaer stressed. "Anthony's fine and, unfortunately, Diop couldn't play on.

"It's a serious injury and condition so we've got to be careful and I like the chance of making concussion subs."
