Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sends a message to Manchester United fans after being appointed permanent manager

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is determined to pay back Manchester United fans for the support they've shown him, his staff and the players over the last three months.

Solskjaer signed a three-year deal to become permanent manager at United on Thursday morning, ending his three-month spell as caretaker boss.

While the Norwegian has engineered a remarkable turnaround in United's fortunes since replacing Jose Mourinho in December, he has thanked the fans for their support during that time.

"I’ve always had it, but I’ve got to say the last few months have been absolutely crazy with the way they’ve taken to the players, to me and the coaching staff," Solskjaer said.

"We’ve really appreciated that support and hopefully we can pay them back now."

It's not just the fans who have been right behind Solskjaer from the day he was appointed on December 19, but the staff too. Long-serving Carrington receptionist Kath was one of the first faces he saw taking the job and he again mentioned her in his first interview since being confirmed as permanent manager.

"It’s been three fantastic months, the support I’ve had here from when I walked in and saw Kath to the chats I’ve had with Ed, the owners, the staff in and around here, it’s been great." he said.

"It’s nice to pay back the belief they’ve shown in me. We’ve had some good performances, we’ve had an upturn. That’s from Joel and Avi and the Glazer family, to Ed, down to players, staff, it’s just been three great months."

"It’s a team effort. This is not just about the manager, this is about the coaching team, what we’ve done together, the players, the staff at Carrington and it’s supporters," he said.

"I love coming in to work with the staff we’ve got."
