Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Manchester United have two new players

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed both Eric Bailly and Timothy Fosu-Mensah will play for Manchester United U23s this week.

United's reserve side host Newcastle at Leigh Sports Village on Friday night in their latest fixture in the Premier League 2 Division Two and are set to be boosted by the returning duo.

Neither of the defensive pair have featured for United so far this season having suffered respective serious knee injuries last year. Fosu-Mensah was injured while on loan at Fulham and Bailly suffered his setback when representing United in pre-season against Tottenham last summer.

United have struggled with injuries throughout the season but Solskjaer believes the return of Bailly and Fosu-Mensah will be like two 'new players' for the club.

“Eric (Bailly) and Tim (Fosu-Mensah) are going to play in the reserves, so that will be a positive for them," Solskjaer told MUTV.

"They have been waiting for a long time and training for a while now, so it will be good to see them in the proper kit.

"That's what they need, and they need that for their own confidence because it is a mental hurdle going from being injured to training.

"Then it is a bigger leap when you get into a competitive game, when you've got to put everything in every tackle. It will be interesting to see.

"I'm sure they are ready, they have been working hard in training, very focused. So, it is two new players for us."
