Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he will speak to Ashley Young after Man Utd star is targeted by boo boys

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has shown his support for Ashley Young and will talk with his captain after seeing him booed during the match against Inter Milan.

At 34 years old, Young has spent eight years at Old Trafford and has one year remaining on his current contract after agreeing a short-term extension in February.

Young is one of few players in the current squad to have won the Premier League with United and has served the club well during his time in Manchester.

However, some supporters decided to take their frustrations out on Young by booing the player during their 1-0 victory over Inter Milan this afternoon.

He came off the bench in the 63rd minute where nearly every one of his touches were received by jeering supporters from the terraces above. Young is an experienced figure amongst the squad, but Solskjaer might have concerns about the skipper's mindset.

Speaking to the media, Solskjaer said: "I think Ashley is a top professional. He always gives absolutely everything and his delivery today ended up with a goal.

"We want our fans to support our players and Ash has been a very loyal servant to this club for many years and he will keep on performing when he plays.

"I've not spoken to him, they've had to do running after the game, but I'll have a chat with him, yeah."

The Norwegian stated Young will be the club's captain heading towards the new season, but discussions are being had about the armband with several players capable of taking it.

Solskjaer said: "We've got quite a few possibilities there. And when the season starts we'll announce, of course we'll have a good assessment, see how pre-season goes.

"But, as you saw, Ashley will wear it when he's playing until we decide on someone, yeah."

The next few weeks will prove pivotal for United as they look to resolve transfer sagas surrounding Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba ahead of their Premier League opener against Chelsea on August 11th.
