Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's transfer gamble is paying off for Ralf Rangnick and Manchester United

There have been a few heated discussions in the Manchester United fanbase when discussing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Some believe it's time to move on, whilst others continue to thank him for the work he's done for the club.

I think both points are valid. Thank and raise awareness for what Solskjaer has done, but you also have to move forward and look to the present. You can appreciate the past, but you can't let it guide your future opinions. This is the same mistake United has made since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.

I will always have so much respect for Solskjaer, and I wanted it desperately to work out. Still, it's time to appreciate what he's done well for the club because, as Ralf Rangnick has already alluded to, he's been accommodating towards him.

Of course, the obvious one was implementing a new structure at Old Trafford, with the club's first Football and Technical Directors being appointed under his reign. You have to thank him for this, as I don't think anyone at United would've appointed Ralf Rangnick as interim manager without these two new roles.

Rangnick has mentioned that he's spoken to Solskjaer about the current state of the squad, and he provided assistance for the German, so he knew what to expect in the role. It's stuff like that which emphasises the type of person United's former manager was, which is why some of the abuse he gets is disgraceful.

Rangnick's job at United has been made a little more accessible due to the fact he's inheriting a squad that, on paper, people thought was good enough to mount a genuine title challenge at the start of the season.

United have one of the most bloated squads in the league, and there's no doubt that some players need to be shipped off and sold because they aren't getting game time.

However, in recent weeks, there have been a few individuals who've stepped up massively. It looks like some of Solskjaer's decisions on the team have proven to be the right ones.

One player who particularly comes under that category is right-back Diogo Dalot.

In the summer transfer window, United were regularly linked with right-backs for someone to provide fair competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Judging from his performances this season, he needed it because he's not been that great.

Kieran Trippier was the name that was regularly linked with a move to United, but nothing materialised. Instead, Solskjaer opted to keep Portuguese international Dalot, who was on loan at AC Milan last season. It's only recently that this decision is looking like a good one.

Wan-Bissaka hasn't played since United's 1-1 draw against Chelsea, and Dalot has been sensational in the last two matches. It's fair to say that he's taken his opportunity.

As per Whoscored.com, against Palace, Dalot made three tackles, one interception, had the fifth-highest amount of touches on the ball (73) and had a pass completion rate of 88 percent.

The decision to keep Dalot by Solskjaer is looking like it's paying off because he's stepped up in recent weeks and is providing perfect competition for Wan-Bissaka, which is what you need if you're to go far in competitions this season.

At the moment, Dalot is looking undroppable, and it's going to be hard for Wan-Bissaka to get into the team at this rate.

It remains to be seen whether the 22-year-old will keep up his recent run of good form, but if he does, Rangnick could turn him into a sensational right-back.
