Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's tactical demand for "frustrating" Man Utd star Edinson Cavani

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted he sometimes gets "frustrated" watching Edinson Cavani even though the striker has been a huge hit at Old Trafford since his arrival.

The Uruguayan veteran, 33, was on target again in United's 2-1 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage on Wednesday.

Cavani was in the right place at the right time to sidefoot home a finish from close range in the first half to pull United back level after Ademola Lookman's early opener.

And that is something Solskjaer is keen to see more of as he revealed the tactical demand he has given to Cavani to follow.

"He’s the centre forward you want in the box. His movement is incredible and it’s something everyone can learn from," Solskjaer said in his post-match press conference.

"It’s almost like I get frustrated at times when he goes wide to put crosses in because he’s the one you want in there. Sometimes I have to ask him to do less running.

"But even in the second half, the header, great save by [Fulham goalkeeper Alphonse] Areola. His movement is spot on.

"He’s a type of centre forward we’ve been looking for and he compliments Marcus [Rashford], Mason [Greenwood] and Anthony [Martial] really well."

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown was in agreement with Solskjaer that Cavani is a real danger when he stays through the middle.

"He is a real predator who has been prolific throughout Europe," Keown told BT Sport . "He was really important, it’s his link-up play, his overall play, he must be a nightmare to play against.

"I didn’t have the pleasure to play against him but he’s a big player for them, a top player. He just waits for his chance and then smashes it in, brilliant.

"He’s a provider too and he works for the team. He wants to close people down, he still puts a shift in at 33. He’s outstanding in that area."

Fulham put up a valiant effort at home to the title chasers, but were eventually beaten by a stunning 25-yard left-footed strike from Paul Pogba.

United moved back above rivals Man City to top the table again by two points, though having played one game more.
