Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's ruthless touchline demand to Man Utd stars in 9-0 win

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer again showed his ruthless side - by demanding his players go in search of "more goals" whilst already 6-0 up against Southampton.

The Red Devils were in cruise control at Old Trafford after Saints debutant Alex Jankewitz was sent off for a horror tackle on Scott McTominay inside the first two minutes.

They raced into a 4-0 lead by half-time courtesy of goals from Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani and a Jan Bednarek own goal.

Substitute Anthony Martial and McTominay both added to their lead after the break as Solskjaer made changes - but he still did not want his side to take their foot off the gas.

Solskjaer was reportedly heard shouting: "Get more goals. Ten minutes." at his players entering the closing stages in ruthless fashion.

He got his wish after his ruthless demand with Fernandes, Martial and James adding further goals after Bednarek gave away a penalty and was sent off for fouling Martial.

It was the first time United have scored eight in a Premier League game since they beat Nottingham Forest 8-1 at the City Ground back in February 1999.

Solskjaer's ruthless side was on display as a player back in February 1999 as he scored four goals after coming on as a substitute in an 8-1 win at Nottingham Forest.

Their 9-0 win equalled the scoreline they achieved against Ipswich Town back in 1995.

It is not the first time Solskjaer has been overhead making a brutal remark on the touchline.

He was heard against Arsenal at the weekend telling Marcus Rashford to attack his opponents by shouting: "take him on, he can’t defend".

The Red Devils had a tough week with a defeat to Sheffield United and a 0-0 draw at Arsenal but got their Premier League title hopes firmly back on track with their thrashing of Southampton.
