Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's reason for making Axel Tuanzebe captain over Paul Pogba

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer turned a few heads by naming Axel Tuanzebe captain over Paul Pogba against Rochdale.

Pogba is one of the more senior players in the team, and has previously captained the club.

Tuanzebe, on the other hand, has represented Manchester United just once in the league this season and spent last year out on loan at Aston Villa.

So just why did Solskjaer decide to make the centre-back captain?

According to reports, it is all to do with the fact that the Red Devils are playing Rochdale in the Carabao Cup.

Tuanzebe, who was born in DR Congo, moved to Rochdale with his family at the age of four and grew up in the town.

Solskjaer therefore decided that the sentimentality of the tie warranted Tuanzebe being named captain in the league cup.

He has captained the Red Devils at every age level, and is more than capable of shouldering the responsibility of the team.

In fact, he summed this up before the game, saying: "Leadership is something that I admire in players. I've said in the past that I want to be United captain one day and I stand by that."
