Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's 'phonecall' with Jadon Sancho amid difficult negotiations

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reportedly told Jadon Sancho that his protracted move to Manchester United, is “in the bag”.

The Borussia Dortmund star is Solskjaer’s top transfer priority this summer, with United keen to bring in another winger before the window closes next month.

United have been locked in talks with Dortmund for much of the window, with both sides unwilling to move from their valuations on the player.

The German giants have placed a £108million price tag on the former Manchester City star and are willing to block any bids below that.

Old Trafford bosses believe that is too high, particularly in the current financial climate surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.

Dortmund boss Lucien Favre recently appeared to effectively end any speculation over his future, claiming he is set to stay with the club.

He said: “We need him, no question. Everyone was happy that he stayed.

“We don’t need to talk long about its qualities – they are enormous. He scores and sets up a lot of goals and can often make all the difference.

“But there are some details that Sancho needs to improve. That is quite normal for a 20-year-old.”

But according to Norwegian news outlet Dagbladet, Solskjaer has remained in regular contact with the England international throughout the saga. And most recently informed the player that the deal to bring him to Old Trafford is "in the bag".

The report goes on to suggest that United are in the market for another player as well as Sancho with the October 5 deadline looming.

Solskjaer will be abe to assess the players currently at his disposal when United get their Premier League season off and running against Crysal Palace on Saturday.

Donny van de Beek is in line for his competitive debut after signing from Ajax, while Harry Maguire will keep the captain’s armband for the new campaign.
