Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's parting message to Manchester United supporters following sacking

A cluster of Manchester United supporters gathered outside the club's Carrington training base this afternoon to wish Ole Gunnar Solskjaer well, following his exit from the club.

Solskjaer was sacked by United this morning following yesterday's 4-1 defeat to Watford and they are now on the hunt for their fifth permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement in 2013.

Michael Carrick has been placed in temporary charge, with the club looking to appoint a fresh face to take over the reins on a deal until the end of the season. They plan to hire a new manager next summer to take the club forward.

Although the atmosphere, certainly from a large portion of United fans, turned sour towards Solskjaer towards the end of his tenure, as proven by some of the boos that were aimed at him as he approached the away end at Vicarage Road, there was still some fans backing his corner.

Some of the scenes outside Carrington this afternoon have proven that, with one United fan having stopped Solskjaer on his way out of the training complex, made him get out of his car and thanked him for his efforts.

After all, Solskjaer does remain a hero in the eyes of thousands of Reds supporters for his heroics as a player.

The United supporter in question, who has uploaded a picture of himself posing for a selfie and then a hug with Solskjaer, has claimed that the Norwegian said it was "an honour to be manager" of Manchester United.

Solskjaer spent nine years at Old Trafford as a player and returned to the club, initially on a caretaker basis, in December 2018.

He landed the job on a full-time basis in March 2019 and left United after 168 games in charge, in 92 of which he came out on top.

The Norwegian is yet to release an official statement on his exit, but it is seems apparent that he is immensely proud to have stood in such a privileged position for almost three years.
