Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's message to Alexis Sanchez after Man Utd defeat

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has called on Alexis Sanchez to fire Manchester United into the Premier League top four.

The Old Trafford outfit crashed out of the Champions League last night after a 3-0 hammering in Barcelona .

And, lying sixth in the table, they face a battle to qualify for next season's competition.

Sanchez has been struggling with injury and was only able to make a late cameo appearance at the Nou Camp.

But Solskjaer wants him to play his part in the end-of-season run-in.

"Alexis has been injured now since March 1," he said. "So he's been out for six weeks and it was important he got 15 minutes on the pitch for his mentality so he knows his knee is OK.

"He was close to getting a goal and had a couple of other instances that he showed his talent.

"Hopefully he can give us a good push towards the end of the season to get in the top four."

Two goals from Lionel Messi and a long-range stunner from Philippe Coutinho earned Barcelona a 4-0 aggregate win.

And Solskjaer admitted his side need a huge overhaul in order to return to Europe's elite.

The five Man Utd stars branded flops after Barcelona defeat

"We were fighting against a great team and we know there's work to be done but I've said all along this isn't going to change overnight," he added.

"The next few years are going to be massive to get to the level that Barcelona and other teams are at.

"We've got good players to work with and at the moment we've done really well to get to the quarters and challenge for top four, but we've got a rebuilding job. It starts with the coaches and players, and with one or two additions."
