Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's huge payout if sacked by Man Utd after signing new contract

Manchester United would have to pay Ole Gunnar Solskjaer £7.5million if they decided to part ways with the Norwegian, according to reports.

Solskjaer tenability as manager of the Red Devils has come under intense scrutiny, after his side were humiliatingly defeated 5-0 at home by arch-rivals Liverpool.

While United have experienced some significant defeats in the last ten years, the way Jurgen Klopp’s side steamrolled into a 4-0 lead within the first 45 minutes has sent shock waves across the club.

And with the side also floundering in seventh position, despite bringing in Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane, and Cristiano Ronaldo during the summer transfer window, Solskjaer’s days at United look numbered.

However, according to the Sun, relieving the Norwegian from his position would be very costly, as United would be required to pay Solskjaer a whole year’s salary worth £7.5m

He is one of the most highly paid managers in the division, with only Pep Guardiola, Klopp, Brendan Rodgers, and Marcelo Bielsa ahead of him in the salary table.

Solskjaer signed a new three-year contract towards the end of July, having led the Red Devils to a second placed Premier League finish last season.

He has been in the Old Trafford hot seat ever since December 2018, when he took over from the sacked Jose Mourinho on an interim basis.

But after a spectacular turnaround in results which saw United win 14 of their next 19 matches, Solskjaer was given the position on a full-time basis.

Unfortunately, the positivity and results which initially accompanied Solskjaer has dissipated, and United chiefs are reportedly split on the decision whether to sack him or not.

It is understood he will be in the dugout for their upcoming Premier League match away to Tottenham Hotspur.

All eyes will be on North London, in a match which could be pivotal in the decision to either keep or fire Solskjaer.

Unfortunately for the former Manchester United striker, the meeting with Nuno Espirito’s Santo marks the start of an ominous period of fixtures.

Three nights after their match in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, they travel to Italy to face Atalanta in the Champions League, before returning to Old Trafford to host fierce rivals Manchester City.

Solskjaer’s future could very well be decided after facing Pep Guardiola’s rampant City side, as the international break will swiftly follow their meeting against the reigning Premier League champions.

Former Chelsea and Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte is currently the bookies favourite to replace Solskjaer if he is sacked.

The fiery Italian has been without a club since he resigned from Inter just a few months after leading them to their first Scudetto in ten years.

Reports from the Daily Star also claimed PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino has “growing support” from Man Utd insiders.

It is understood he is the No.1 choice to take over the reigns at Old Trafford, however, United are more than aware any potential move for the former Spurs manager would likely be very costly and difficult.
