Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's five-word response to question on Philippe Coutinho transfer

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer refused to be drawn on Manchester United's interest in Philippe Coutinho.

United are set to come up against the Brazilian in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final with Barcelona on Tuesday night.

Coutinho started the first leg at Old Trafford as Barca secured a 1-0 lead ahead of the return at the Nou Camp.

The former Liverpool star continues to be linked with a stunning move to Old Trafford after a frustrating 18 months with the La Liga champions.

Coutinho currently has no plans to depart with Barca demanding more than the £140m they paid for his services in 2018.

Lionel Messi injury update ahead of Barcelona clash with Man Utd

That hasn't stopped the speculation and Solskjaer was asked about United's interest ahead of Tuesday night's encounter.

A local reporter asked the United boss: "Do you want Coutinho for next season?"

Solskjaer responded: "He is a Barcelona player" and repeated his comment when pushed for an answer.

Coutinho is believed to have reservations about moving back to the Premier League despite his successful spell with Liverpool.

His family failed to settle in England and they are happier living in Barcelona.

According to Sport, a possible move to Old Trafford has also been made difficult because it doesn't appear that United will 'forgive his Liverpool past'.

Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has confirmed Lionel Messi is fit to start at the Nou Camp after suffering a head injury following a heavy challenge from Chris Smalling in the first leg.

Ousmane Dembele is also fit to return and Valverde has suggested the Frenchman could well start after a hamstring problem.

Alexis Sanchez and Nemanja Matic are both back in the United squad for the clash.
