Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's "biggest concern" with Harry Maguire at Man Utd

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's biggest concern at the moment is the fact he can't trust Harry Maguire in one-on-one situations, believes Rio Ferdinand.

United are expected to go after a new central defender in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Red Devils apparently want a partner to Maguire, someone to fill in ahead of Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof.

But Ferdinand believes their defence will still have some issues as long as Maguire is in the side, because he can't be trusted to be left on the halfway line and take on an attacker one v one.

Maguire is known for his lack of explosive pace, and United currently play with men behind the ball to avoid letting speedy opposition players in behind the defence.

Speaking to his YouTube channel, Ferdinand explained that while Maguire has a host of other attributes, he can't be left alone at the back.

“I think that’s Ole’s biggest concern - can he leave Maguire one v one on the halfway line? Or Lindelof?" He said.

“It’s proven that you can’t as that’s not their main attributes.

"Harry Maguire is good at a lot of other things but that area, that’s one of his weak points."

Ferdinand was then asked about United's change of play from being a defence-first side to being one comfortable with the ball at their feet.

He explained that the change in tactical approach has also had an impact on Aaron Wan-Bisska's game.

"I think [the style of play] is a massive point," Ferdinand added.

"I think Wan-Bissaka can be coached into that, I think he's going to have to do a lot of work on the training ground on the ball and with the ball.

"His strongest point, we saw against City, his ideal scenario is to be left one v one against the wide man. There's nobody better around than him."
