Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reveals how Daniel James has impressed in Manchester United training

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Daniel James has set the standard for any new Manchester United signing with his levels of work rate in pre-season training.

Wales international James became the first signing of Solskjaer's reign at Old Trafford last month when he completed a move from Championship side Swansea.

United soon followed up the arrival of James by completing a move for Crystal Palace full back Aaron Wan-Bissaka as they continue with their summer rebuild.

Despite arriving off the back of a superb breakthrough campaign Welsh winger James still remains somewhat of an unknown quantity to supporters, but Solskjaer is convinced he has what it takes to make it at Old Trafford.

United's first week of pre-season training is coming to an end ahead of their summer tour of Australia and the Norwegian coach took the time to praise the efforts from James so far.

"They've been great when I've spoken to them," Solskjaer told ManUtd.com of the two new signings.

"It's about them coming in, being themselves and showing that they're here to take the places of the other players, which makes a competition for places, which will then spur their teammates, to be fair, to push their game.

"Obviously, Aaron has not joined us yet but Daniel has already set the marker and the standard on work-rate and attitude in training. Whoever you're going to speak to later on, if you ask about him then it's been a delight to see."
