Ole Gunnar Solskjaer doesn't believe a two-week Premier League circuit break would make a difference after a surge in Covid-19 cases.
The Premier League recently returned its highest number of positive coronavirus tests this season, prompting representatives of some clubs to propose a two-week 'cooling off' period.
But Manchester United manager Solskjaer, speaking after his side's last-gasp 1-0 victory over Wolves, said he doesn't believe it will make much of a difference.
"It's hard for me to answer that straight now," Solskjaer said on Amazon Prime.
"But a circuit breaker; I think it's more the whole society and I'm not sure if stopping playing football will make a difference.
"We are in a bubble and it's proven to be quite - well, we haven't had too many cases, especially within the group so I don't know, I don't want to join in that discussion."
He later added: "It's not something I've thought about a lot and we as a club, a group and our players have been really good following protocols and rules.
"That's part of the job here. We as clubs follow protocols we're given. I can't see the benefit in having a break - when are we going to play the games?
"We all know it's so difficult, but if you just stop more games I don't think that's going to make a big, big change. It might be a longer one, so when do we finish the season?"
Not everyone agrees with Solskjaer's opinion, and earlier on Tuesday West Brom boss Sam Allardyce suggested a break would be worthwhile.
"Everyone's safety is more important than anything else," said Allardyce.
"When I listen to the news the variant virus transmits quicker than the original virus we can only do the right thing which is have a circuit break.
"I am 66 years old and the last thing I want to do it catch Covid. I'm very concerned for myself and football in general. If that's what needs to be done we need to do it. We had one positive this week and it seems to be creeping around no matter how hard we try."
Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo added: "The rise of cases is increasing over the country, and we are not an exception."
