Ole Gunnar Solskjaer responds to Roy Keane's brutal criticism of David De Gea

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists David de Gea is still "the best goalkeeper in the world" after Roy Keane suggested he could lose his place in the Manchester United first team.

The shot-stopper dropped a clanger in the Red Devils' 1-1 draw with Everton on Sunday when his goal kick was deflected into his net by Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Former United captain Keane slammed the keeper at the half time break, saying he'd have "lynched" the Spaniard if he was his manager or team-mate.

He added that Red Devils keeper Dean Henderson - who is currently on loan at Sheffield United - could take his place in the first team when he returns to Old Trafford.

But Solskjaer has played this down as a possibility and instead heaped praise on De Gea.

"I trust David 100 per cent. He made amends by saving Sigurdsson's shot at the end and it showed that David is the best goalkeeper in the world," said the Norwegian.

"It's something that happens in football once in a while if you take too long on the ball.

"Calvert-Lewin always chases everything and it's unfortunate that it goes in the goal. We responded and got the goal we deserved."

Keane accused De Gea of being arrogant in the draw with Everton, suggesting that he took his manager's warnings with a pinch of salt at Goodison Park.

Keane told Sky Sports: "It's almost a bit of arrogance from him, waiting. I'm sure Ole spoke about 'You will be closed down - Everton away - by this young striker [Calvert-Lewin] who is in great form'.

"I wouldn't be surprised [if he has competition from Henderson]. I think there will have to be. That's the manager's job, you are constantly making decisions on your players.

"They have Henderson out on loan, and it's certainly an option that Ole will be thinking over."
