Ole Gunnar Solskjaer responds to Real Madrid interest in Man Utd star Paul Pogba

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists Paul Pogba is happy and will stay at Manchester United – despite interest from Real Madrid.

Newly-returned Real boss Zinedine Zidane talked up the prospect of signing United's club record £89million signing Pogba this summer.

Pogba himself said he would be open to a move to Real at some stage in his career, stating it would be a “dream” for any player to work with Zidane.

But Solskjaer moved to quash any suggestion Pogba could leave Old Trafford this summer and insisted the 26-year-old midfielder remains central to his plans going forward.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told which two Man Utd signings he must make this summer

“I don't like to talk about other team's players of course, but this is another challenge with international breaks,” said Solskjaer.

“Players are available all the time as well and it's a different environment, a general talk.

“Paul is a very nice and polite man who then answered a general question on Zidane who is an icon in France, a fantastic manager.

“He used to be a fantastic player and he's just politely answered that question, but Paul's happy here, he's going be a big, big part of who you like to build your team around and that hasn't changed at all.”

United travel to Wolves on Tuesday, having moved up to fourth spot, level with third-placed Tottenham.

Despite their impressive run in the Premier League,
United were dumped out of the FA Cup by Wolves three weeks ago, after what Solskjaer described as the worst performance since he took charge.

Asked what lessons he had learned from that FA Cup loss, Solskjaer said: “Quite a few and of course we have to, because if we turn up against a good team like they are not at our level, we'll get the result we deserve.

“Last time we didn't play well enough, didn't have enough tempo. It was a different type of game.

“We had ball 70% of the time, but sometimes possession doesn't mean you're going to create chances and score goals.”

Solskjaer also said he welcomed United's decision to appoint a technical director this summer, saying: “Football has changed and the structure at football clubs has changed, me and Ed [Woodward] and Joel [Glazer] for that matter are looking to how can this club be ran as smoothly and as well as possible. So we'll see what the club will end up with.”

Asked how vital it was for United to finish in the top four, Solskjaer said: "I've answered that question quite a few times. Manchester United, our history, tradition and our potential will always be interesting for players.

"But the better you do, the better results you get, more players will like to come. Champions League next year would be fantastic When we came in three months ago we were 11 points behind fourth - now we're in that position, we've just got to go into next seven games with same attitude.

"Let's go for it, see where it takes us and just keep carrying on, don't change your approach on how to attack games. Sometimes you get more of the ball, sometimes you ave to defend well."
