Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given his backing to John Murtough after he became their first ever football director.
Murtough, who has been at United since 2013 as Head of Football Development, steps into the newly-created role with Darren Fletcher becoming technical director.
The move is part of a major restructure of United's football operations with Ed Woodward taking more of a backseat when it comes to transfer negotiations.
Murtough will work closely with Solskjaer on a day to day basis and head up the recruitment process with the manager having the final say on transfers.
Solskjaer says he is "very happy" with the moves made by the club and also insisted that their recruitment process is "still going to be the same" as he anticipates an "interesting window".

Speaking ahead of United's Europa League clash with AC Milan on Thursday, Solskjaer said: "I am very happy we have made this decision and appointment.
"I’ve known John since I came and it is now more a formal role. He has been working well behind the scenes - he is a cultural fit.
"Very happy with what we have. Continuity and fresh ideas.”
Asked how the new roles would affect transfer business, Solskjaer added: "Of course everyone in world football affected by pandemic. It'll be an interesting window.

"The process of our recruitment is still going to be the same with new roles. Work we have been doing for years now anyway.
"The communication is very good and we are always looking to add quality to the squad."
Fletcher was recently introduced to Solskjaer's first-team coaching setup and he confirmed he will remain involved in that side of things.
“Darren will still combine with the coaching, of course maybe a little bit less," Solskjaer said.
" “A few months back when we were making a final decision there were other things in pipeline for Fletcher.
“One thing I was sure of was we couldn’t lose Darren. He has got fresh ideas. He has a bright eye for football a really keen eye.
“Now a little bit less coaching and more influence on the other side. Go speak to players and sell Man United as the club he knows.”
