Ole Gunnar Solskjaer responds to Carabao Cup draw as Man Utd face Man City

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said he is relishing the prospect of a derby match in the Carabao Cup semi-final as his side drew bitter rivals Manchester City .

United beat Colchester 3-0 while City overcame Oxford 3-1 in Wednesday evening's quarter finals, and the two teams were first out of the hat in the draw, with Leicester taking on Aston Villa for a place in the final in the other tie.

United only recently beat City, with the Red Devils winning 2-1 on December 8, and speaking to MUTV Solskjaer said that result will give his team confidence.

"We take what comes our way," he said. "We have a good memory from last time we met them.

"They're the best team in England and we're confident going into the semi-final.

"We played well against them but there's things we need to improve on. It will be two fantastic nights in Manchester."

The two teams met in the same stage of the competition in 2010, with Wayne Rooney's dramatic late header sealing an aggregate 4-3 win for United, and Red Devils fans will no doubt be dreaming of a similar outcome over the Christmas period.

It was a comfortable night at Old Trafford against Colchester, and Solskjaer made it clear he was taking the competition seriously by putting out a strong team against the League Two side.

It took until the second half for them to open the scoring, however, with Marcus Rashford putting them ahead before an own goal from Colchester's Ryan Jackson just five minutes later doubled the lead.

Anthony Martial ended the game as a contest after 61 minutes and ensured United would increase their impressive unbeaten run to six games in a row.
