Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reacts to Marcus Rashford's new Manchester United contract

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has expressed his delight after Marcus Rashford committed his long-term future to Manchester United.

Rashford has put pen to paper on a new contract that will significantly increase his weekly wage and keep him at Old Trafford until 2023, there is also an option for a further year.

There had been transfer speculation linking the England striker with a move away from United, Rashford's club since he was just seven years old, but the new contract has put an end to that.

It's also a big show of faith from Solskjaer, who is expected to entrust Rashford with the number one striker role in this coming season, as the Norwegian looks to make United a dynamic attacking force.

"Marcus is one of the most talented English players of his generation," Solskjaer told Manchester United's official website on the announcement.

"He is an outstanding player; blessed with natural pace and energy.

"Marcus is a shining example of the talent that our Academy produces and his upbringing means that he truly understands what it means to play for Manchester United.

"Despite being only 21 years old, Marcus already has great experience. He has a fantastic future ahead of him with the club and I am delighted that he has signed a new contract."

Rashford wasn't involved in the first day of pre-season back at Carrington on Monday because the players who were on international duty this summer will be brought back at different stages.

Rashford, Paul Pogba, David De Gea and new signing Daniel James will return before the team fly out for the pre-season tour of Australia and Asia on July 7.
