Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reacts to Amad debut for Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hinted Amad is getting 'closer and closer' to starting a match for Manchester United after he made his senior debut against Real Sociedad.

The Ivorian winger played the final ten minutes for United on Thursday night as they thrashed Spanish side Sociedad 4-0 in the first-leg of their Europa League round-of-32 tie.

Amad, 18, only arrived at United last month from Atalanta but has impressed for the club at reserve level and was quickly integrated into the first-team training bubble.

The teenage winger missed out on the Under-23s' win over Arsenal last Friday night through illness and was not included in the match day for the weekend draw with West Brom, but was fit again in time for the trip to Turin.

Amad finally made his senior debut as he replaced Mason Greenwood with United already three goals up in the match and Solskjaer is pleased with the steady progress his signing has made.

"He's getting closer and closer to his minutes by the day," Solskjaer told BT Sport. "That is why we felt towards the end when we were 3-0 up to go and let him enjoy his first 10 minutes for the club."

United agreed a deal to sign the highly rated winger on deadline day of the summer transfer window but he was only officially confirmed as their player last month.

United paid Atalanta an initial £19million, which could rise by a further £18million if certain add-ons are met.
