Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 'pulls plug' on Man Utd transfer as forgotten star puts his foot in it

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co. have done a superb job at Manchester United this summer bringing in Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane, and the cherry on the icing, Cristiano Ronaldo.

It seems the Red Devils' business is wrapped up this month, and United are not expected to land any more players this deadline day.

But one transfer that could have taken place - the fact it didn't is a huge source of frustration for the forgotten individual involved - is Diogo Dalot moving on loan to Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund.

Dalot spent last season on loan from Man United at AC Milan and upon returning, and finding he is still behind Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the pecking order at Old Trafford, wanted another new challenge this season.

Solskjaer appeared to be on board with the plan, especially as United were in the process of trying to sign England international right-back Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid.

But once that transfer broke down, and later Dalot came off the bench in Manchester United's recent victory over Wolves, it seems the Red Devils manager changed his mind.

According to The Sun, Solskjaer effectively blocked the loan move from taking place, meaning Dalot will remain at Manchester United this season whether he likes it or not.

Solskjaer's decision also follows comments from Dalot in which he in some ways put his foot in it by talking up the improvements he made while on loan at AC Milan last season.

"On the pitch, I feel I have improved a lot tactically," Dalot told Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport. "I learned some defensive aspects here and it was fantastic to develop these qualities too.

"But not only that. [I developed] in attack, how to go into the high press, recovering the ball as soon as possible.

"That has all been very useful. [I have learned] that the team must be focused for all ninety minutes and aware of every single aspect of the match, of what is happening.

"I must say I had a fantastic year and met beautiful people. It was a real pleasure to play for Milan. But now I am thinking about the European [Under 21s] Championship and I really don’t know what will happen after that."

At the time, Dalot was seemingly pointing out his qualities that certain individuals at United were perhaps overlooking.

But since his comments, and the Trippier deal breaking down, it seems Solskajer has very much taken them on board and decided to keep the Portuguese youngster at Old Trafford.
