Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given an honest update of the club plans for the January transfer window.
The Norwegian has admitted that it will be a “difficult” period for the club, having used the bulk of his budget in the summer to bring in the likes of Donny van de Beek, Amad Diallo and Alex Telles.
United’s net spend in the last window was over £60m, meaning the Red Devils will probably need to sell some players before splashing anymore cash.
Solskjaer said that it was unlikely that he will bring in anymore players for the title push.
But admitted that several fringe players were likely to head out of the exit door for the good of their careers.
“I think that the signings we made in the summer strengthened the squad really well,” explained Solskjaer. “Good characters, good signings, good players.
“January is always difficult, but if something comes up that you think is a long-term target anyway, that’s another scenario.
“But not many teams would be willing to lose their players in January.
“[It's] unlikely that something will happen on the in side, but there might be two or three going out.
“They deserve to play more football for their own good and for their own careers.”
A number of players have been linked with moves away from the club.
Third choice goalkeeper Sergio Romero is understood to have packed his bags, while fellow Argentine Marcos Rojo has come nowhere near to breaking into the first team.
Nor has big-earner Phil Jones, while attackers Dan James and Jesse Lingard have been linked with loan moves after struggling for regular game time, as has full-back Brandon Williams.
