Ole Gunnar Solskjaer provides Man Utd transfer update after double injury blow

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Manchester United will look at "one or two additions" in the January transfer window after they were hit with a double injury blow.

United were without midfielders Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay for their 2-0 defeat away to Arsenal on New Year's Day, with both set to be on the sidelines for some time.

McTominay is expected to be out for another two months after he suffered knee ligament damage in United's win over Newcastle, while Pogba needs ankle surgery and will be out for at least another month, having not started since September.

The double blow is a huge setback for Solskjaer's side, with McTominay having been arguably United's most consistent player this season, while the Red Devils have sorely missed the creative spark Pogba would be expected to provide.

United had just begun to discover some form and have hauled themselves up to fifth in the Premier League table - but manager Solskjaer now fears their momentum could be derailed.

And he said he will try and find solutions with the transfer window open again - although much depends whether the kind of players United need are available.

“Sometimes you think one or two additions would do nicely because we are building towards something, but it depends on whether those players for us are available," said Solskjaer.

“We always want competition for places but we’ve been suffering in midfield and it’s a big blow that Paul is now out and Scott McTominay is out for a few months.

“It gives us less options and we’ve got loads of games coming up so that will play a part in our decision making in terms of the January market."

United have been linked with several midfielders including Tottenham's Christian Eriksen, West Ham's Declan Rice, Leicester City's James Maddison, Lille's Boubakary Soumare and Dejan Kulusevski of Atalanta.
