Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praises Man Utd flops despite dour draw with AZ Alkmaar

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praised his Manchester United side – despite their winless away run stretching to 10 games.

United failed to muster a single shot on target during this dismal stalemate , but under pressure Solskjaer declared himself pleased with his side's performance.

The Reds have not won away since March, but Solskjaer refused to lay into his players, instead focusing on the referee's failure to award a penalty for a challenge on sub Marcus Rashford.

“It's a good point away from home against difficult opponents on a difficult surface,” said Solskjaer.

“They beat Feyenoord 3-0 away from home, we made many changes and so I'm very pleased.

“It should've been a win and I'm fed up of talking about penalties we should have had. That one was 100 out of 100 a penalty.

“If you look the one we should have had against Arsenal on Monday, you have so much time to move your hand out of the way.

“Here, the linesman can look straight at the tackle, where he wipes out Marcus's foot.

“Unfortunately for us we didn't get it, so there's no point in me complaining, but there will come a point where these decisions will turn our way. Today was the decision of the ref.”

United have scored just seven goals in their last nine games, with Solskjaer acknowledging the ongoing failure in front of the target.

“There's no point in me saying it,” said Solskjaer. “They know themselves. You want to create chances and score goals.

“But I'm pleased with the boys, the debut of Brandon Williams, you can't see any nerves, so brave, with the courage to take the ball forward, so that's a big, big plus.”

United ended the game with 10 men, substitute Jesse Lingard lasting just nine minutes before suffering a hamstring injury in the final moments, Solskjaer having used all three subs.
