Ole Gunnar Solskjaer maintains his side are heading in the right direction after coming from behind at West Ham.
Manchester United had to overturn a two-goal deficit at Southampton last weekend.
Six days on and their poor first-half only saw them trail by one with the Norwegian insisting that is a "step forward".
Goals from Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Paul Pogba capped an excellent half an hour spell which ensured they secured a 3-1 win.
And the United boss was pleased with both the performance and signs of improvement.
He said on Sky Sports: "Football is up and down. First half we struggled to keep up with their counter attack and set plays. We gave the ball away too often.
"Poor first half, second half of course the goal changes the mood, the first one. Great goal by Paul, Mason goal.
"We played against a team that had drawn with Manchester City and beaten Leicester and Wolves. They are a good team and make it difficult for you. I am very, very pleased with the performance.
"Last week we were 2-0 down at Southampton and this was a step forward, we were only one down."
Rashford however has urged his United team-mates to stop giving themselves mountains to climb during games.
But they fell behind for the fifth consecutive game, yet they have managed to win on each occasion.
"We need to stop doing that (letting teams score first)," he told Sky Sports.
"If we keep more clean sheets we will definitely win more games.
"It is good that we showed spirit, but ideally we don't want to be conceding.
We defended quite well. They have dangerous players on the counter-attacks. We managed to get through it. Once you get to half-time it is a chance to regroup and we came out refocused."
