Ole Gunnar Solskjaer pinpoints the moment things went wrong for Manchester United last season

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has pinpointed Manchester United's injury crisis as the reason behind the team's downturn in form towards the end of the season.

United went on an 11 game unbeaten run when Solskjaer took over after Jose Mourinho was sacked and the club's hopes of a top four finish were revived after a disappointing start to the season.

However, after the remarkable comeback against Paris Saint-Germain, United went on to only win two of their last 12 games in all competitions and finished a disappointing sixth and missed out on Champions League football next season.

And Solskjaer believes the injury crisis which affected United from February had a detrimental impact on the team, ahead of the trip to Crystal Palace United were without 10 players through injury.

"When I got there, it was about building on the skills of the team, gaining confidence and demanding a little more running capacity," Solskjaer told Norwegian station TV 2. "Then we got several injuries that made us get the results against us. What happened at the end I think will help us towards the next season and the summer."

Solskjaer returned to Norway for a break ahead of this weekend's Treble Reunion game and admitted that while he had been reflecting on the season he would never be finished analysing it.

"I will never have finished fully analysing it," he said. "We analyse, look back, look through notes and see matches again, but there is so much more we could do differently."
