Ole Gunnar Solskjaer pinpoints off-field reason for Luke Shaw's Man Utd resurgence

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has suggested that Luke Shaw becoming a father for the first time has been one of the factors behind his remarkable improvement on the pitch this season.

The Manchester United left-back has been in stunning form recently, and has won praise from pundits and teammates alike.

The 25-year-old and his partner had their first child in 2019, and Solskjaer thinks it has helped Shaw mature on and off the pitch.

Following his side's 1-0 victory over West Ham, in which Shaw won the man of the match award, Solskjaer said: "He goes forward, he trusts himself. He's become a dad and I think that does a lot to many people.

"Luke has matured so much in the last two-and-a-half years and I love to see his development. He's now 25 and he's becoming a man. and is one of the experienced boys in our team.

Gary Neville is one of those who has also been lauding Shaw's performances recently.

And speaking on commentary for Sky Sports during United's game against the Hammers, he said: “He’s on top of his game, Luke Shaw.

“No panic at all if he’s in a bit of trouble. He’s just really relaxed and moves his way out of a tight corner.”

And when asked if he thinks Shaw will Gareth Southgate's first-choice for England at left-back for this summer’s European championships, he replied: “At the moment, yes.

“I’m always fingers-crossed with Luke Shaw around completing the games and getting to the end of the season.

“But at the moment he’s the best left-back in the country.”

Shaw and his side are back in action on Thursday when they face AC Milan in the second leg of their Europa League last-16 tie.

And they then continue their quest to win silverware this season when they face Leicester in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Sunday.
