Ole Gunnar Solskjaer pinpoints Fred for special Manchester United praise

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes midfielder Fred deserves special recognition for his role in helping Brazil reach the final of Copa America.

The Manchester United star has played a key role in helping the Selecao set up a massive clash with fierce rivals Argentina in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Fred, 28, enjoyed a stellar campaign with United at club level and was rewarded for his fine form with a starring role for Tite's side this summer.

His success at international level is even more impressive given the gruelling nature of the past 12 months, coupled with the fact he suffered an injury in the build-up to the Europa League final in May.

Although the final ended in penalty shootout defeat to Villarreal manager Solskjaer is delighted with the commitment Fred showed to his side, and he believes he is getting his reward with Brazil this summer.

"I have to put particular praise to Fred," Solskjaer told club media. "I’ve got to say, at the end of the season, he got an injury in the last league game. We thought he wouldn’t make it for the [Europa League] final as he didn’t train the whole week before our own final, and he’s just put his head down and worked really hard.

“He trained the day before the final and came on and played. He’s just played throughout the summer and that’s some going. Some players with that injury wouldn’t be in training football now. He’s been a credit to Manchester United and himself in the way he’s conducted himself.”
