Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opens up how he wants Manchester United to play amid tactical criticism

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted that Manchester United aren't currently playing how he wants.

Although it had appeared that United had made progress under Solskjaer last season, the Reds have gone backwards this term.

Solskjaer survived the Liverpool debacle to remain in charge of United's games against Tottenham and Atalanta, however, while his side were seemingly improved in those games, all too familiar problems returned in the Manchester derby on Saturday.

United lost 2-0 to Pep Guardiola's side at Old Trafford and looked inferior in every area on the pitch, appearing devoid of quality.

Solskjaer faced questions after the game and he reflected on his tactical approach in recent weeks.

“I’m sure when we come back, the players will be fresh in their minds after the internationals," Solskjaer told Sky Sports.

"Of course, the demands on me and the players will be high. We’ve just got to get back to what we started to look like and what we were for a while. We’ve got the players to do that and we’ve been through this a few times.

"Since the last game we played here, it’s been a very difficult period and we’ve gone from the way we used to be. We went to Tottenham, were solid and won 3-0 with a different system.

"Then you get a good result against Atalanta with a different system, but systems or style? We need to be on the front foot more.

"I can't look at myself and say this is the way I want Manchester United to play."
