Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on the Man Utd stars that will 'never last' at Old Trafford

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has fired a warning to his Manchester United stars after his appointment as their new manager.

Solskjaer was named boss on a permanent basis after an amazing spell in caretaker charge, with 14 wins in 19 games.

However, the Norwegian has warned his troops against complacency ahead of Saturday's showdown with Watford as they hunt down a top-four spot.

Solskjaer said: "The players who get complacent, they never last at this club anyway.

“I’m the same. I can’t be complacent and rest, now I’ve got the job. That’s not me. We’re looking forward. We’ve got to work harder.

How Man Utd could line up under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer - if he lands his targets

“I’ve got some targets. I want a Manchester United team that’s one of the hardest-working and fittest teams in the league.

“That then will bring results. The players know my expectations on the future.”

The 46-year-old, who represented the club as player and reserve team coach during his first spell, has helped reset the culture, with his man-management and approachable style impressing as much as results.

Small details like getting the players to wear suits to games have been viewed positively, along with a public persona in stark contrast to his predecessor.

Man Utd narrow down director of football search to two names

"To lift the Premier League trophy again is what we expect, what we're used to, what we have done so many times," Solskjaer added.

"We can't wait for too many years, but we have to take it step by step. It's not like it's going to happen overnight, catching 15, 16, 17 points or whatever we are behind the top teams now."

United trail fourth-placed Arsenal by two points but will leapfrog the Gunners with victory over the Hornets as Unai Emery's men are not in action again until Monday night.
