Ole Gunnar Solskjaer offers Man Utd transfer hint amid setback over Spurs target Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that the Red Devils are still working on a couple of potential deals, after suffering a setback in their attempts to sign Tottenham transfer target Bruno Fernandes.

Spurs were handed a boost yesterday as it emerged that Manchester United's move to sign Fernandes was all but over, with the Red Devils unable to agree a fee with Sporting Lisbon for the midfielder.

That was reported by The Sun, who claimed that United's bid to sign the Portuguese midfielder had collapsed due to Sporting Lisbon refusing to budge over their valuation of the player, with Manchester United not willing to meet Sporting's valuation.

It has been reported that United had offered £42.5million up front, with a further £8.5million in add-ons for the 25-year-old, who was heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.

January transfer window: everything you need to know

But it is now being reported that United are exploring alternatives in the January transfer window, with just one week left before the deadline.

And Solskjaer has hinted that United have "one or two options" they are looking at in the final week of the window.

"It is stretched but we’re getting players back after the break as well, so we will be better off for the break," he said, speaking ahead of Manchester United's FA Cup tie at Tranmere Rovers this weekend.

"We’re still working on one or two things so let’s see if the club get it over the line.

"I think our fans know what we have started on and I’ve been trusted to do that job and that rebuild doesn’t go one way all the time, it doesn’t just go we’re doing great, we’re doing great, said it so many times.

"The foundation has to be laid and the culture has to be properly set and laid down and this group is a good core of players that believe in themselves and what we’re doing to carry us forward with signings and players coming back."

Meanwhile, Solskjaer has warned Manchester United fans that it won't be a quick fix for the Red Devils in the January transfer window.

"For me, we do have a way of doing things, you can see other teams have done well," he added.

"You can see Jurgen [Klopp] spent four years building his team [at Liverpool] and they’re doing well now. It’s not gonna be a quick fix, and it’s not eight or 10 players in in one transfer window, we’ve had one proper transfer window and we are trying to do something now."
