Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed he is expecting to see more from Scott McTominay and Andreas Pereira over the course of the upcoming Premier League season.
Both are young midfielders who have had plenty of experience of playing in the first team at Old Trafford under their belts.
With Solskjaer keen to place his trust in United's young stars going forward, they could get even more first-team exposure over the coming months of next season.
With United having lost Ander Herrera on a free transfer to Paris Saint-Germain earlier this summer, there is a chance for either McTominay or Pereira to make a first-team spot their own next term.
And United boss Solskjaer has laid down the gauntlet to the pair to do exactly that next term, believing they are at the right stages in their respective careers to kick on.
“Andreas I expect a lot more from, Scotty I expect a lot more from," said the 46-year-old.
"Those two between them had maybe 15, 20 starts last season. You expect them to have at least 20 each this season maybe even more.
"That’s maybe two players into one that can replace Ander.”
Scotland international McTominay has a special relationship with United's fans after progressing through the club's youth academy to the first team.
The 22-year-old was handed his first-team debut by then manager Jose Mourinho In May 2017 and has since gone on to make a further 30 appearances in the Premier League, scoring twice.
Pereira, meanwhile, joined the Red Devils' youth set-up from Dutch club PSV Eindhoven in 2011 and later went on to make his first-team bow in August 2014.
During his time at Old Trafford, the Brazil international has also spent time on loan with both Granada and Valencia in Spain.
Both Pereira and McTominay, though, look to be at United for years to come and it is little wonder Solskjaer wants the pair to become first-team regulars.
