Ole Gunnar Solskjaer names potential Marcus Rashford return date, says forward won't be rushed

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said the club will not rush Marcus Rashford back into action after his recent layoff.

After representing England in the European Championships in the summer, the forward underwent surgery that has subsequently ruled him out of the early weeks of the campaign.

Images appeared of Rashford back in training last week in a boost for United and some supporters took the snaps as an indication that a return to action is not far away for the 23-year-old.

However, speaking ahead of the team's League Cup clash with West Ham United on Wednesday, Solskjaer has made it clear that Rashford's recovery, along with that of left-back Alex Telles, will not be hurried, per the club's official website.

"Yeah it’s going well," he said when quizzed on the images of the two players back at Carrington. "They’ve worked really hard, both of them. Alex is a bit further on than Marcus. I don’t think we’ll see Marcus until after the international break but Alex has worked well and will be in the squad as well."

In years gone by any desperation from United to get Rashford back in the fold as soon as possible would be understandable, as he has long been a key performer.

While he will still be a regular at Old Trafford when fit, the recent acquisitions of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho have bolstered the attacking options.

Additionally, Mason Greenwood has emerged as one of the most gifted young forwards in the Premier League and as was evident on Sunday with his last-gasp winner against West Ham, Jesse Lingard still has a lot to offer too.

It means that Rashford can undergo a stress-free rehabilitation from his surgery, with the focus seemingly on getting him back in contention for the trip to Leicester City on October 16.
