Ole Gunnar Solskjaer names another Manchester United leader

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is delighted Scott McTominay has developed into one of the leaders at Manchester United.

McTominay, 23, has signed a new five-year contract after an impressive 15 months in the first-team and started in their Premier League draw with Tottenham on Friday nght.

Despite missing two months of the season with a knee injury, McTominay has started 25 games and contributed five goals. The midfielder started the campaign next to Paul Pogba and has only been dropped once all season.

"He's been a part of the club for so long, Scotty," Solskjaer said. "We're delighted he can see his future here - immediate and long-term. It's five years 2025 plus an option and Scotty has been developing so much over the last few years.

"I watched him before I came in and was excited to come in and work with him, such a humble and hard-working boy with the Man United DNA, knows what it takes to go through the ranks, and he is a leader on the pitch.

"Very, very happy we managed to come together and work towards winning trophies together."

United host Sheffield United in their first fixture at Old Trafford since March 8 on Wednesday evening, having been involved in a dramatic 3-3 draw at Bramall Lane in the reverse fixture.

Sheffield United led 2-0 with 18 minutes left yet United scored three goals in seven minutes, only to concede an added time equaliser.

"We are developing all the time but we played against a very difficult opponent, in a difficult stadium," Solskjaer said of the game. "The fans were helping. The first goal would be a foul [on Phil Jones] if you didn't have the fans onto the referee but they played exceptionally well.

"But we had a 15 or 20 minute spell where we were exhilarating as well and showed what we were capable of, and we are getting a lot more consistent and hopefully we can get even more consistent and more penetration passes in behind."
