Ole Gunnar Solskjaer makes vow to Man Utd fans after first win as permanent manager

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer announced two days into his permanent job at Manchester United : “This is the start of the start.”

And the Norwegian boss couldn’t have got off to a better flyer with all three points against Watford to further cement a top four finish to the season, leaving him to declare: “We’re almost in the driving seat.”

However, that start wasn’t as comfortable as Solskjaer had demanded as he constantly flew out of his dug-out seat to scream and bawl at his under-performers from the touchline.

Solskjaer said: “The first 20 minutes we started so slow and sloppy. You could see we have had players out with injuries and the international break.

“I didn’t feel any different but it is one of those first games after the international break that you know could be a potential banana skin.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hints at Paul Pogba change after Man Utd's win over Watford

“The second half we started sloppier but at 2-0 I thought we were in control. Then they scored. We didn’t get into the game, let them run through us but then they put us under pressure.

“Watford are a good team. They play in the semi-final of the FA Cup with some very good players. And three points, well you can’t get more.

“There are four very good teams challenging for two places and we have given ourselves a good chance.”

Unhappy Luke Shaw explains why Manchester United must "forget" win over Watford

Solskjaer was delighted for Luke Shaw who produced a top-class performance to keep the snipers at bay and added:

“Luke has got so much in his locker. He is exceptional going forward and I can’t wait to see him blossom.”

Shaw said: “We made it harder with the way we played. There were times when we weren’t at our best and we were awful in the second half. We were lucky with the result.

“But we need to forget about the game today because we were not at our best at all.

"We fully trust Ole, though, and we’re looking forward to working with him for the years to come.”
