Ole Gunnar Solskjaer makes Romelu Lukaku decision ahead of Chelsea opener

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has axed Romelu Lukaku from his Manchester United squad to face Chelsea in their Premier League opener at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Belgian forward has been staying away from United in a bid to try and force through a transfer to Italy, with both Inter Milan and Juventus keen on his services.

Lukaku has taken the unusual step of training with his former club Anderlecht as he pleads with United to allow him to leave, with his decision costing him around £400,000 in fines.

A fuming Solskjaer has made it clear to the forward's people that he isn't willing to put up with his actions, and he won't be considered for selection while he is away.

Lukaku has become an increasingly disruptive influence around the squad as he pushes for his move away, which he is desperate to get having been told by Solskjaer that he is clearly the club's second choice as the central striker behind homegrown talent Marcus Rashford.

The former Chelsea and Everton forward joked on social media that he might be better off making a move to the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers.

He also posted the speed-test timings of the United squad in an apparent attempt to prove that he was one of the fastest in the group despite criticism over his fitness towards the end of last season.

Solskjaer is determined to make a positive start to his first full campaign as United boss amid reservations that he may not be the right man for the job.

Rashford is certain to start against Chelsea at Old Trafford, with Solskjaer looking to install quick, mobile players behind him in a bid to give United a great cutting edge.

Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard and new signing Daniel James could also start the game against Frank Lampard's Blues.
