Ole Gunnar Solskjaer makes Man City and Liverpool Premier League title prediction

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer doesn't think that Manchester City and Liverpool will amass the same huge points totals in the new Premier League season.

City were crowned champions with 98 points, one more than Liverpool as the Reds became the side with the most points not to win the top-flight title in English football history.

Jurgen Klopp's men made up for that by winning the Champions League, and with City having also landed the two domestic cups to their second successive league title, many are claiming that the two sides are head and shoulders above the rest of the teams in the Premier League, including Solskjaer's Manchester United .

But the Norwegian disagrees, and is expecting 2019/20 to be a much closer race between the top two and the rest.

"The Premier League is a very competitive league," said Solskjaer in Singapore, where he is preparing for United's third pre-season friendly of the summer against Inter Milan on Saturday.

"What those two teams did last season was exceptional to get 97 and 98 points.

"I don’t think that will happen again. I think we will see a closer race this season.

"There are six teams who want to challenge for a Champions League place, there are one or two teams underneath who would [also] like that.

"But our aim is to focus on ourselves.

"We have to be better, improve, make sure Man Utd is our only focus and I’m sure we’ll get closer to the top."

United beat both Perth Glory (2-0) and Leeds United (4-0) in their first two pre-season friendlies of the summer in Australia, and after Inter will take on Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur in Shanghai, Norwegian outfit Kristiansund in Oslo and AC Milan in Cardiff .
