Ole Gunnar Solskjaer makes Jesse Lingard plans clear amid renewed West Ham transfer speculation

Darren Randolph has fuelled speculation that West Ham could make a move to bring Jesse Lingard back to the club after a teasing post on social media.

Lingard was an undoubted success whilst on loan at the London Stadium last season and faces stiff competition for places if he remains at Manchester United.

Ole Gunnar Solksjaer's squad is packed with international players and has only got stronger over the summer with the arrival of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.

Manchester United ran out superb 5-1 winners over Leeds United on Saturday with Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes the stars of the show.

Despite the form of Fernandes - the man most likely to keep Lingard out of the Manchester United team - Solskjaer singled out the former Hammer to push his Portuguese star for a spot in the starting XI.

The Norwegian was full of praise for both Pogba and Fernandes but still found time to remind Manchester United supporters of Lingard's quality:

"Don’t forget Jesse Lingard who has re-invented himself and has come back the man that we know he is with the quality," Solskjaer said. "He is going to play a big part as well."

Lingard's return to form at West Ham saw the 28-year-old force his way back into the initial England squad for Euro 2020, and he would be welcomed back at the London Stadium by supporters and it appears players.

Following West Ham's 4-2 win at Newcastle goalkeeper Randolph took to Instagram to encourage Lingard to return to the Hammers.

Randolph wrote: "@JesseLingard I'll be seeing you soon at Rush Green for training! You know you want to".

The goalkeeper's post was dotted with praying and winking emoji's suggesting it was sent more in hope than expectation but it shows Lingard was clearly a popular man among the Hammers squad and would be welcomed back.

Prior to the start of the season David Moyes was asked about a potential move for Lingard but the manager refused to be drawn on the situation.

"Well, you are talking about a Manchester United player, not a West Ham player," he said.

"So you need to ask Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] about that. I can only talk to you about the West Ham players."
