Ole Gunnar Solskjaer makes insistence over Man Utd form after draw at Southampton

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists that Manchester United's recent matches haven't seen a dip in form, despite the Red Devils dropping points for the third Premier League game in a row.

United were held 1-1 by a Southampton side who played the final 17 minutes with 10 men on Saturday, after defender Kevin Danso was sent off a second bookable offence.

Earlier, Danso's cross had been headed in by Jannik Vestergaard for Southampton's equaliser, after a fine Daniel James effort had given United the lead in the first half.

The draw follows on from United's defeat at home to Palace and 1-1 draw at Wolves , with those results puncturing optimism after the 4-0 win over Chelsea on the opening weekend of the campaign.

“The strange thing about it is the three other games that we haven't won were better than the Chelsea one,” Solskjaer told BT Sport after the game.

“The Chelsea one was a game where they pressed us and pushed us back and we counter-attacked. The other three we've been dominating, creating chances and haven't been clinical enough in front of goal to win the games.

“We've missed some penalties, we've missed some great chances, we should have won today as well... so it's not a dip in form, it's a dip in results. Definitely.”

Despite the dissappointment, Solskjaer praised the impact of Welsh winger James, who scored his third goal in four league appearances for the club.

“We know his qualities and coming in off the left he's got a great strike and good goal today," he continued.

“He runs in behind and creates space for other players around him.

“So I'm delighted for the boy. He's really come in and made an impact for us.”
