Ole Gunnar Solskjaer makes concerning Harry Maguire admission as Man Utd start season

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted he is unsure how Harry Maguire's arrest and conviction will affect him this season.

Maguire was convicted of aggravated assault, resisting arrest and bribery following a brawl with police on the Greek island of Mykonos last month.

The Manchester United skipper has appealed his conviction on all three charges and is awaiting the outcome of that legal process.

But on the eve of the new season, United boss Solskjaer said he does not know how much of an effect the events of the past few weeks will have on his captain ahead of tomorrow's Premier League opener against Crystal Palace.

"The process will keep on going but, knowing Harry, he's a very strong character and can put that apart," said Solskjaer.

"But as a human being it'll be in the back of his mind and, apart from that, you have to see how it develops.

"Personally, I think he'll be able to focus on his football, but you can't predict how people will react.

"But he's trained well, he's focused and hopefully that process will go on, but that's something that will go on with the legal department."

Maguire protested his innocence following the arrest, and still insists that he did nothing wrong.

"I don't feel I owe an apology to anybody," he told the BBC.

"An apology is something when you have done something wrong.

"I don't wish it on anybody. Obviously the situation has made it difficult for one of the biggest clubs in the world, so I regret putting the fans and the club through this, but I did nothing wrong.

"I found myself in a situation where it could have happened to anybody and anywhere."
