Ole Gunnar Solskjaer makes Anthony Martial prediction ahead of new season

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is predicting big things for Anthony Martial in the coming campaign.

The Frenchman often flattered to deceive in the 2018/19 season, which began with him often being overlooked by previous boss Jose Mourinho.

Indeed, on United's trip to America in pre-season last summer, Martial was criticised by Mourinho for leaving the tour in order to attend the birth of his child.

That led to repeated suggestions that the former Monaco forward was looking for a way out of Old Trafford, but following the appointment of Solskjaer he signed a new long-term contract in January.

Speaking in Singapore ahead of United facing Inter Milan, Solskjaer said: "Anthony can be a world class forward.

"I think if you followed Anthony the way he has come back to pre-season, his attitude is spot on.

"I think he has always got the quality and talent, so I expect him, and Marcus (Rashford), to be even better than last season.

"Anthony had a top season when he came, I expect we will see a better Anthony next season."

United face Chelsea in their opening game of the Premier League season on August 11, and Solskjaer also spoke of the importance of a fresh start.

“The transfer window will close when the league starts and the start of the season is important,” he said.

“We've worked them hard. I don't think many players have had a pre-season like this before.

“In the first eight to 10 games you can lose the chance to win games, so the first two months are vital.

“I'm looking to get all the players back to the form when I came in and we went on a run of 11 or 12 games without losing.

“Everyone has been spot-on this season. When they're out on the pitch I can't fault anyone and they've been more proactive in meetings.”
