Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lays down new challenge for Anthony Martial at Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has demanded more from Anthony Martial despite the forward netting three goals in his past three Manchester United appearances.

The Norwegian previously admitted he is probably Martial's "harshest critic" and he's proving true to his word, by laying down another challenge for the Frenchman.

This season has seen Martial revert to a more central position in United's frontline at the same time as regaining the No.9 shirt at Old Trafford. And with Marcus Rashford currently sidelined with a double stress fracture in his back, the onus is on Martial to supply United's goals.

Solskjaer wants to see the 24-year-old continue his goal-scoring streak and told MUTV how Martial can keep improving.

“If you’re a wide forward, you’re facing forwards more and running at people," Solskjaer said.

"Now he’s in a different position, where it is more physical and you’ve got to be stronger with your back to goal and be more patient.

"It’s your job to be in the box when the ball arrives. I’m still at him. I demand more of him.

"Sometimes, the ball is squared across the six-yard line and it’s where he should be. I just nudge him and say: ‘It should have been a goal for you’. Scoring 25 instead of 15 is a big difference for a No.9.”

Martial's tally for the season currently stands at 15 in all competitions.

United signed former Watford striker Odion Ighalo on loan from Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenua as cover for the France international, but Martial could start again in Thursday's Europa League tie against Club Brugge at Old Trafford.

The tie is level at 1-1 on aggregate.
